Critical Analysis
Inclusivity & Prison design
This literature review aims to explore the relationship between the prison-built environment and its influence on mental health, hyper-masculinity and heteronormative ideals within the prison community. The concept and understanding of how the psychological manifestation of materiality and spatial forms influence the prison environment, contributing to the large numbers of mental health that impact a positive ideology of discrimination towards LGBT+ prisoners. Analysing theories on how the occupied space could potentially contribute towards improved mental health across the sector, in turn improving inclusivity and reducing discriminative behaviour.
